Volunteering roles at Lichfield Arts

Volunteering at Lichfield Arts is a great way to be involved in the arts, enjoy engaging concerts, make new friends and be part of our amazing organisation.

Regardless of the role fulfilled or the time a volunteer is able to give to Lichfield Arts, we value and appreciate the efforts and commitment of every individual and the work they do to help us deliver the arts to our community. Many of our volunteers have been with us for a number of years and gain a lot of enjoyment from participating in our community events.

We make great things happen!

Volunteering is of course what you make of it, and we ask that all volunteers work together as a team, support each other, are patient with those who may be less confident or experienced in a particular role, and play their part in promoting a positive, welcoming vibe at our events.

As well as our concerts, we have several other events and festivals throughout the year for volunteers to be involved in: The Blues & Jazz Festival in June, Fuse in July and The Lichfield Festival of Folk in October. The Folk on the Farm event in September has now also become established as a popular event for both visitors and volunteers alike.

Our regular concert roles:

STAGE BUILD/DISMANTLE – Help us get ready for our concerts by helping to us to build up the stage. Without the stage we couldn’t hold our concerts and the stage plays a strong role in giving our audience, performers and sound/lighting engineers a great base to work with. The stage ensures our concerts look professional, add to the appearance of the artists and their work, and gives the audience a great view of the performance. You will need to be reasonably physically fit to fulfil this role, and if it is your first time we ensure you are given training and support. We have a small (and hopefully to be expanded) team of stage volunteers who have great fun, why not join in?

BAR – An important element of our concerts and events is the bar, and adds to the experience of the event. Help us to deliver great customer service, have fun and join our fantastic bar team! The bar is a vital source of income for Lichfield Arts, which is extremely important to us as a charity, and is an ideal way for volunteers to interact with our customers. The bar can be busy at times, especially at the interval when customers head up to the bar, and our bar team deliver and work well together to meet the challenge. Why not join in and, as with all roles, we can of course provide training.

GLASSES – Be a vital part of the bar team without pulling pints! Help us by collecting those empty glasses, use the simple dishwasher to keep them sparkling and help the bar volunteers by ensuring they have a steady supply of clean glasses ready to serve our next customer a great pint! Without our glasses volunteers, the bar would struggle to meet the demand, especially at busier gigs.

FRONT OF HOUSE – You will be the first person our customers see when they arrive, our friendly face to welcome visitors to the venue and make them feel welcome. The front of house volunteers check and sell tickets, and play a vital role in ensuring the audience is guided into the venue efficiently. Part of the role involves using a card machine for ticket sales, and using a device for scanning tickets as customers arrive.

STEWARD – Help us to give our audience a great time! Meeting and greeting, ensuring customers know where the bar, toilets and fire escapes are, making our valued customers feel welcome, helping with the room set up/take down…stewarding is great fun and an ideal way to help make sure the concert runs smoothly and our customers leave with a big smile!

RAFFLE – A bit of fun for our customers and volunteers, why not sell raffle tickets and encourage our audience to take part? The raffle is a good way to help us to make our concerts a success.
